Overview

Established an embedded software development environment for the STM32F103C8T6 microcontroller, based on the ARM Cortex-M3 architecture.

The environment supports cross-compilation, firmware library development, and preparation for real-time operating system integration.

Development Platform

  • Operating system: Ubuntu Linux
  • Target microcontroller: STM32F103C8T6
  • Processor architecture: ARM Cortex-M3
  • Programming languages: C and C++
  • Cross-compiler: GNU Arm Embedded Toolchain

ARM Cross-Compiler Verification

The installed cross-compiler was verified using:

arm-none-eabi-gcc --version

The toolchain provides the compiler infrastructure required to generate ARM firmware from an x86-64 Ubuntu development workstation.

libopencm3 Integration

The libopencm3 embedded peripheral library was obtained and compiled for the STM32F1 family.

cd ~/GitHub/embedded/libopencm3
make TARGETS=stm32/f1

The resulting static library was verified at:

lib/libopencm3_stm32f1.a

The ST-Link command-line utilities were installed and verified.

which st-flash
which st-info
st-flash --version

These tools provide the infrastructure for programming and interfacing with compatible STM32 hardware.

FreeRTOS Source Integration

The FreeRTOS kernel source repository was retrieved into the embedded development workspace.

~/GitHub/embedded/FreeRTOS-Kernel

The kernel source is available for subsequent firmware integration. A custom FreeRTOS application has not yet been built or executed.

Verification Summary

The following development capabilities were established:

  • ARM cross-compilation toolchain available
  • STM32F1 libopencm3 library compiled
  • ST-Link programming utilities installed
  • FreeRTOS kernel source retrieved

Next Engineering Activities

Future work includes compiling STM32-targeted firmware, integrating RTOS scheduling, and validating execution on physical hardware.
